How to Teach Practical Business Skills with Cesim Simulations

At the annual Cesim Business Simulation Nordic-Chinese Institutions Teaching Experience Sharing 2016, we invited instructors and MBA students from Shenzhen University and Beijing Normal University in China over to Finland. This sharing aims to accelerate the teaching experience exchange among Nordic and Chinese educators, particularly how simulation games are used to enhance the practical business skills and employability of students. We interviewed Professor Li, Dean of College of Management at Shenzhen University, about her business simulations teaching and competition experience from a leadership perspective.

Business Simulation Game Module at Coventry University

During the  Inaugural Cesim Instructor Workshop 2016, we strived to create more effective learning experience for students and share simulation teaching experiences among educators of different institutions and countries. Each instructor took turn to express their expectation from the Workshop before the in-depth discussion and ideas exchange began. One of the very popular interests in business strategy games teaching among educators was, how do other instructors use simulations in their courses and institutions? Business Simulations at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences

Business simulation games can be put to use to achieve a wide range of learning outcomes. In this week’s blog post, we will explore and consider the benefits of using business simulations in teaching in modern education. We interviewed Senior Lecturer Jukka Sirkiä from Saimaa University of Applied Sciences in Finland, who has accumulated over a decade of experience in business simulator games, both as a learner and user, as well as an educator. As an enthusiastic adopter of technology in his role as a Lecturer, Jukka has adapted a portfolio approach to the use of business educational games, utilizing different simulations for a variety courses which he is lecturing.
