Zillertaler Tourismusschulen ist die erste Tourismusschule Österreichs die mit einer Cesim Simulationssoftware für Hotelbetriebe arbeitet. Herr Professor Mag. Bruno Haller hat unser Planspiel dieses Jahr in zwei Klassen benutzt. In diesem Artikel spricht er über Planspiele als Lehrmethode und seine bisherige Erfahrungen mit OnService.

Neue Hotel Simulation an unserer Schule
Als erste Tourismusschule Österreichs arbeitet unsere Schule mit zwei Klassen mit einer Simulationssoftware für Hotelbetriebe.
Damit ist es nun vorbei, dass man strategisches oder betriebswirtschaftliches Know-How nur "im Trockenen" lernt. Die SchülerInnen häufen nicht nur mehr Wissen über Preisbildung, Kontingentsteuerung, Instandhaltung, Investitionen, Personalplanung oder betriebswirtschaftlichen Kennzahlen an, sondern probieren, wie man 's macht, dass man Erfolg hat.
Jede kleine Schülergruppe führt ein eigenes 50-Betten-Hotel und natürlich stehen sie alle untereinander im Wettbewerb. Wie es eine Schülerin formulierte "eine große Herausforderung für uns, auch eine neue Art des Unterrichts, aber mit Spaß so viel Brauchbares gelernt, habe ich schon lange nicht mehr!"
Die Software zum Planspiel stammt aus Finnland und ist natürlich in Englisch, was dazu führt, dass der Unterricht oft zweisprachig ausfällt.
Der Wert von Simulationen oder computerunterstütztem Lernen ist in der Bildungslandschaft schon lange kein Geheimnis, jedoch mangelt es oft an einer intelligenten Umsetzung durch die Programme.
Bis dato konnte man das Führen eines Hotels eben nur im Hotel, als "Training On the Job" lernen, ein "Ausprobieren" war nicht möglich. Simulationen haben den Vorteil, dass man die Wirklichkeit nachspielt, ohne dabei etwas kaputt zu machen.

Zillertaler Tourismusschulen is our first Austrian client amongst the Austrian hospitality schools. Prof. Mag. Bruno Haller has been using our business simulation game Cesim OnService in two courses this year. The article is a summary about his experience so far with Cesim OnService small business simulation game and his general opinion about simulations as educational tools.
According to Professor Haller, simulations and computer-based learning has been existing already for a while, but the crucial point in a successful learning outcome is the proper implementation of these educational tools. One advantage of business games is that the students learn the basics of business and management through practice and not only from books. Before the business strategy games, young hospitality professionals only had a chance to learn how to lead a hotel by ”training on the job”. With hotel simulation games, you can model the reality without doing any real damage during the process and learn risk-free how to implement a successful strategy.
During the Cesim OnService course, students were making decisions amongst others about pricing, contingency control, maintenance, investments and staff planning, learned to analyze financial ratios and implement a successful strategy in practice. Each student team started the hotel management simulation game with a hotel consisting of 50 rooms, and student teams were competing against each other in the markets. Last but not least, let us show what a student from Professor Haller's course told about her learning experience in the OnService course: ”This was a big challenge for us, because it is a new educational approach, but it has been long time since I learned so many useful things in such a fun way!”
