INTRODUCTION

You must read the official rules in full before participating in the competition.

Registration and participation in the competition implies acceptance of all the conditions of these official rules. Participants are deemed to have read these rules.

1. CESIM ELITE QUALIFYING COMPETITION

CESIM ELITE QUALIFYING COMPETITION (hereinafter "the qualifying competition") is an online competition organized by CESIM OY (hereinafter "CESIM"), a company registered in Finland in the Finnish trade and companies register (Yritys- ja yhteisötietojärjestelmä) under the number (Y-tunnus) 0748851-2 and whose registered office is at Kalevankatu 16 B 3, 00100 Helsinki.

The competition aims to provide students with an educational experience through the use of training solutions (management simulations) developed by Cesim.


2. PARTICIPATION

Students (hereinafter "participants") registered in a European higher education institution and aged over 18 at the time of registration.

Participants must demonstrate a good knowledge of English.

Students enrolled in the post-graduate studies are excluded from the competition (doctorate, etc.).

Participants cannot register in more than one team.

Each participant must have a valid email address in order to validate their participation. They must also have internet access.

Teams must submit a motivational video for the team answering the questions listed on the registration page (https://www.cesim.com/elite/2024/europe).

Each participant must submit a profile photo of themself before the start of the competition.

 

3. FORMATION AND COMPOSITION OF TEAMS

Each team must be composed of 3 to 5 students. The composition of the team cannot change after April 7, 2024.

Cesim reserves the right to disqualify a team during the competition if the total number of its members is reduced to fewer than three (3) students after April 7, 2024.

Team members must be students from the same higher education institution (hereinafter "institution").

CESIM reserves the right to check the validity of the registration information submitted on participants at any time. CESIM also reserves the right to refuse participation, or to disqualify participants and their team at any time. The submission of incorrect or misleading information will automatically lead to a refusal to participate or a disqualification.


4. TEAM SUPPORT

Each team must be accompanied by a member of the educational institution's staff in charge of teaching (hereinafter "the accompanying faculty member").

The accompanying faculty member in charge of preselection, composition, competition registration and coaching for his team for the duration of the competition.

The accompanying faculty member is free to choose the members of the team in compliance with the conditions imposed by these regulations.

The accompanying faculty members are invited to participate in a workshop event taking place at the same time as the international competition (see “7. Event for the accompanying faculty member”).

5. ORGANIZATION AND STAGES OF THE COMPETITION

Registration of the teams and must be made before April 7, 2024.

The qualifying competition begins on April 12, 2024 and ends with the last deadline on April 14, 2024.

The team ranking and information on the selected teams will be revealed on April 15, 2024. This event marks the official end of the qualifying competition.

The final composition of the teams and the details of the participants (names, first names, emails, etc.) can be communicated until April 7, 2024, date from which no change in the teams will be authorized.

 

a. Important terms

The qualifying competition will be held entirely online and in English.

The qualifying competition is composed of a Cesim simulation game. The simulation game is divided into decision-making periods (hereinafter “rounds”).

The simulation game will take place over five (5) to six (6) rounds.

The first round of the simulation can be opened earlier than April 12, 2024 for the teams to get to know the simulation.

The subsequent rounds will follow from April 12 to April 14, 2024 inclusive.

The exact schedule of the competition will be communicated to the participants and their accompanying instructor no later than at the start of the first round.

CESIM reserves the right to make changes to the organization of the competition and in particular the organization of a second session on another simulation to decide between the best teams.

b. Steps
- Step 1: registration of teams
  • Registering teams and choosing the desired number of teams must be done using the registration form on the event page: https://www.cesim.com/elite/2024/europe
  • Once this step is completed, a confirmation email is sent by Cesim to the email address indicated on the form.
  • A CESIM member will validate the registration directly by email or phone.
- Step 2: payment of registration fees
  • Payment of participants' registration fees must be made by the institution or the student team direcly before April 7, 2024. The first team of each institution is free of charge.
  • An invoice will be established by CESIM using the information provided by the establishment to the organizers.
  • All payments must be made by bank transfer or other means to the company CESIM taking into account the information indicated on the invoice.
  • Any delay noted leads to the cancellation of the registration and participation in the competition.
- Step 3: composition of the teams
  • Information on participants must be communicated to CESIM before April 7, 2024.
  • These must be communicated using the Excel file which will be sent by CESIM. All required fields must be completed. Otherwise, CESIM reserves the right not to register the team or to disqualify it.
  • The completed participant registration file must be sent by email to the following address: elite@cesim.com
  • The participants registered by the institution, as well as the accompanying faculty member, are deemed to have accepted all of the conditions presented in these regulations. CESIM cannot be held responsible in the event that the participants have not been able to read these rules.
- Stage 4: start of the competition
  • Participants take part in the competition under the conditions indicated.
  • The case used, as well as the simulation will be revealed no later than at the start of the first round.
- Step 5: Selection of teams
  • The final ranking will be revealed on April 15, 2024. The exact time will be communicated directly to the teams and their accompanying faculty member.
  • The key winning criteria will be revealed no later than at the start of the qualifying competition, along with the Cesim simulation that will be used in the event.
  • The top two (2) teams will qualify for the final in May/June 2024. More information about the Cesim Elite International Final will be communicated directly to the selected teams.

6. INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

An international competition will be organized online at end of May - beginning of June. More information will be communicated by Cesim directly to the selected teams.

Two (2) places for this Cesim Elite International Final are reserved for the winning teams of the "CESIM ELITE EUROPE QUALIFYING COMPETITION ”.

 

7. EVENT TO THE ACCOMPANYING FACULTY MEMBER

A training event (hereinafter the "workshop") intended for accompanying faculty members accompanying the two (2) winning teams will be organized by CESIM during the international competition.

The workshop will take place online, and will be organized during the Cesim Elite International Final. Accompanying faculty members will receive a separate invitation by Cesim.

The accompanying faculty member undertakes to participate in this workshop in the event that his team attains a top two position in the ranking of the "CESIM ELITE QUALIFYING COMPETITION".

The workshop will take place in English and will be led by CESIM and can include the participation of a guest speaker.

Participation is free.

More information will be communicated directly to the relevant accompanying faculty members.

 

8. REGISTRATION FEES

The first team registered by any institution is free of charge. Cesim will inform if a team from the same institution has already registered earlier.

The undermentioned registration fees will be applied from the second team from the same institution. Note that this rule apply regardless if the first team is registered by the students themselves or the institution registering their students.

Registration fees of two hundred euros excluding tax (€200 excl. VAT) are required per registered team.

A reduced "early bird" registration fee of hundred sixty euros excluding tax (€160 excl. VAT) will be applied for teams registering before the 31 January, 2024. For any registration after this date, the normal fee will be applied.

A single institution may register any number of teams at discounted rates according to the aforementioned conditions, providing the participants are all enrolled students in the registering institution and fulfil all obligation outlined in section 2 of this document.

In the event that the institution does not have a valid european intra-Community VAT number, VAT will be invoiced at the legal rate in force.

These registration fees cover the means made available by CESIM to organize the competition, as well as the prizes won by the teams.

Invoices will be payable at the latest before April 7, 2024. CESIM reserves the right to cancel the registration and participation of the teams concerned in the event of non-payment before this date.

 

9. EVALUATION OF TEAMS

CESIM will evaluate the teams on their performance at the simulation session(s) organized as part of the competition and potential side tasks that will count in the global ranking of the teams. The criteria taken into account by the jury will be revealed at the latest at the opening of the competition.

CESIM reserves the right to modify the evaluation criteria used to decide between the teams at any time.

10. COMPOSITION OF THE JURY

The jury is made up of CESIM members and its exact composition will be revealed at the latest during the announcement of the final ranking.

The jury may be assisted by any person of their choice.

 

11. SANCTIONS

CESIM may, at its sole discretion, disqualify a team and / or one of the team members, if the team or one of the team members does not comply with these rules or adopts any behavior deemed reprehensible.

In the event of suspected fraud, CESIM reserves the right to carry out any verification deemed necessary. Any fraud noted will result in the immediate and final disqualification of the participant or the team without notice.

CESIM reserves the right to take legal action against any team and / or any member of the team if the team and / or one of the members of the team tries to disrupt the organization of the competition.

 

12. CONTACTS

The organizers will not respond to requests from participants for items that would allow one team to gain an advantage over other teams. In this case, participants risk disqualification from the competition.

 

13. PERSONAL DATA

CESIM ensures the protection, confidentiality, non-alteration, availability and security of the personal data entrusted. The personal data collected will be processed by CESIM for the purpose of organizing the competition in accordance with the applicable legislation on personal data (GDPR).

The profile of the participants on the sim.cesim.com platform (hereinafter "the platform") will be created from the personal data transmitted by the accompanying faculty member. The accompanying faculty member undertakes to provide correct information and to have obtained the agreement of each participant concerned on the use of the information transmitted.

The personal data likely to be collected from participants concerns:
- First name (s)
- Last name (s)
- Birth date
- Degree in which the participant is enrolled
- Educational institution
- Email address
- Photograph  

The personal data of the accompanying faculty member will also be collected for the purpose of organizing the competition and for communication reasons. It is possible to unsubscribe from any communication for marketing / advertising purposes.

The personal data likely to be collected on the accompanying faculty member concern:
- First name (s)
- Last name (s)
- Job title
- Institution
- Email address
- Phone number
- Photograph

Only the persons authorized by CESIM can access the personal data transmitted for the purposes mentioned above.

Personal data can be kept by Cesim for a period of 5 years after the end of the competition. Participants and their accompanying faculty members can request the deletion or modification of their personal data at any time after the competition.

Certain information collected may be published on the dedicated page of the Cesim International Final organized in May-June 2024. These include the names and surnames of the winners and their accompanying academic, as well as a photograph if applicable.

The participants and the accompanying faculty member acknowledge having the right to access, modify or delete their personal data, by simple email to elite@cesim.com.

In accordance with the context of the competition, the names and surnames of the participants and the accompanying faculty member will be accessible by all registered participants.

 

14. PUBLICATION OF CONTENT ON THE PLATFORM

Any use of the platform (in particular the forum functionalities) to convey racist, violent, xenophobic, malicious, obscene or illicit remarks is prohibited.

By using this platform, participants agree not to:
- download viruses or other harmful code,
- publish content likely to incite hatred or violence, threatening content, pornographic content, content containing nudity or gratuitous violence, or any other form of inappropriate content,
- disseminate information or content likely to upset the sensitivity of young people;
- carry out illegal activities, in particular and without this list being exhaustive, infringe rights on software, brands, photographs, images, text, video, etc.
- publish content allowing the identification of any person, including by disclosing their address or telephone number or by violating their privacy.
- violate the general conditions of use of the platform or realize any fact that can be qualified as indecent or corresponding to an incitement to commit certain crimes or offenses.

By using the platform, the participants declare:
- that they are the owners of the content they publish on the platform.
- that the publication of such content does not violate copyright or privacy law.

The author of a message is solely responsible for what they say.

 

15. COPYRIGHT

The participants assign free of charge and without limitation to CESIM the reproduction, representation, adaptation and translation rights attached to the elements provided within the framework of the competition (videos, slogans, presentations etc.), on all media. These rights are assigned for the whole world (all countries), and in particular, without this list being exhaustive, for internal or external communication purposes (brochures, website, social networks, etc.), as well as for PR and press relations and for commercial, promotional and advertising purposes, in particular with regard to the products and services marketed by CESIM. These rights are assigned for the legal duration of the intellectual property right applicable in each country concerned.

The participants declare by the acceptance of these official regulations, to hold all the rights and all the authorizations necessary for the peaceful enjoyment by CESIM of the transferred rights. The participants declare that they are not bound by any agreement with a third party of any kind whatsoever, having the object or effect of limiting or preventing the implementation of this authorization.

 

16. RIGHT TO THE IMAGE

The participants, as well as the accompanying faculty members, authorize CESIM to reproduce and exploit their image fixed in the context of photographs for the provision of promotion and communication of CESIM ELITE competition, as well as the international competition in connection with this event.

This authorization entails the possibility of making any modification, adaptation or deletion deemed useful for the initial fixing of the image. CESIM is authorized by this clause to use, publish, reproduce, adapt or modify, alone or in combination with other materials, by all means, methods or techniques currently known or to come, the image transferred.

This authorization is valid for use for a period of five (5) years worldwide (all countries) on all material and immaterial media, in all formats known or unknown to date, and in particular, without this list is not exhaustive: paper support (prints of photographs), catalogs and various editions, CDROM / DVDROM and other digital supports known and unknown to date, all audiovisual support and by all means inherent to this mode of communication, internet (including in particular and without limitations: Intranet, Extranet, Blogs, social networks), all reception vectors combined (smartphones, tablets, etc.), press media (television advertising messages, cinematographic advertising spots), internal communication media, promotional media (POS, ILV , poster campaigns in all places, all sizes and on all supports (urban, airports, stations, public transport, etc.)), supports intended for the for sale (merchandising products: postcards, posters, t-shirt, etc.), right of integration into another work / multimedia work.

It is understood that the communication media reproducing the image of the participants may be difficult to remove from social networks and sharing sites used by CESIM (such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, YouTube, etc.), and the participants agree that these communication media may remain on social networks and on sharing sites as they were originally published, even in the event that the above five (5) year term has elapsed.

The participants declare by the acceptance of these official regulations, to hold all the rights and all the authorizations necessary for the peaceful enjoyment by CESIM of the transferred rights. The participants declare that they are not bound by any agreement with a third party of any kind whatsoever, having the object or effect of limiting or preventing the implementation of this authorization.

This authorization to exploit the image right is granted free of charge.

 

17. CLAIMS

Any dispute, question and / or complaint regarding the competition must be received no later than seven (7) days following the date on which the winning teams were announced.

Disputes, questions and / or complaints must be sent in English to the management of CESIM at one of the following addresses:
- by email: elite@cesim.com
- or by post: Cesim Oy, Kalevankatu 16 B 3, 00100 Helsinki, Finland.

The jury in charge of evaluating the results will meet and a response will be sent by email within seven (7) working days of receipt. Any decision of the jury will be binding and final and no participant will have any other right of appeal or appeal.

All disputes arising from the competition will be governed by Finnish law and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent Finnish courts.

 

18. CANCELLATION OF THE competition

CESIM reserves the right to change the schedule, modify or cancel the competition, without the teams and / or participants members of the team, as well as any other interested person (referrer, establishment, etc.) being able to claim compensation.

In the event of cancellation of the competition, CESIM undertakes to reimburse the registration fees within thirty (30) working days following the date on which the cancellation was announced.

 

19. MODIFICATION OF THE RULES

CESIM reserves the right to modify these rules at any time, in particular and without this list being exhaustive, for all purposes of organizing the competition or for reasons of compliance with any new applicable legislation and / or regulations.

Any modification must be incorporated into these rules and must be announced on the platform as soon as it is published.

In the event that one of the clauses of these regulations is declared null or void, this nullity has no effect on the validity of the official regulations themselves.

 

20. MISCELLANEOUS

CESIM cannot be held responsible for errors in participant registrations, platform and simulation malfunctions, invalid email addresses or connection problems during the competition.

CESIM ELITE competition, its concepts, content and documentation, its appearance, its logo and any other graphic element, as well as its organization are and will remain the exclusive property of CESIM. No rights are transferred under the participation.

CESIM is a registered trademark on which the company CESIM has an exclusive right of exploitation. Any reproduction, use or affixing of the said mark without the prior authorization of CESIM is prohibited. The data, the programs, the texts, the information, the logos, the visual identities, the musical samples, the images animated or not (in particular the videos) and their formats appearing on the platform are the exclusive property of CESIM and are protected as such by the provisions of intellectual property law. Any user agrees not to use them and not to allow anyone to use these contents for illegal purposes. Any representation or reproduction, total or partial, permanent or temporary, on a computer medium and / or paper, and by any process whatsoever, of one or other of the elements of the platform or the services offered, without the CESIM's prior and express agreement is prohibited, and constitutes an act of counterfeiting, which may result in civil and / or criminal convictions.
